Celebrating my 23rd birthday in lockdown

A ‘lockdown birthday’ isn’t something that any of us could have imagined at the start of the year. 2020 has been a rollercoaster so far and it’s so strange to have not been into the office or seen my family since February.

I turned 23 in the first week of June – doesn’t time fly?! It feels like only two minutes ago it was my eighteenth. I was really worried about having my birthday in lockdown as I usually would be seeing my friends and family. However, I do feel very lucky to be living with my boyfriend because he made my birthday into such a special day. Lockdown has been a lot easier with him making me laugh every day.

In the morning I had breakfast in bed, and when I went downstairs my boyfriend gave me the most beautiful flowers from Bloom n Wild. They are absolutely gorgeous and have brightened up our living room. They’re in a large glass vase from Next which is perfect for the home decor obsessed girl in me. He also filled the room with confetti balloons! I only have Boomerangs of this and no pictures but they were brilliant.

We then drove to our local Costa Drive-Thru (this was just after coffee shops started opening). It was our first Costa since before lockdown began in March. I used to drink a takeaway coffee a few times a week, especially on the daily commute to work, so it was such a treat to have one! I had my usual soya vanilla latte and it’s definitely been missed.

When we got home I opened some cards and presents from my family and friends, got ready for the day and prepared some lunch. I really wanted the party buffet feel for lunch, even though it was only my boyfriend and I who would be eating it. We had bread sticks, mozzarella dippers, vegetable spring rolls and a generous dip selection. It was genuinely my dream lunch!

My dad called me the day before my birthday and told me he was going to drive down from up north to see me, around lunchtime. So when there was a knock at the door just after 12pm I assumed it was him. However when I got to the door it was actually my best friend, her husband and their lovely baby! I cried, I really wasn’t expecting to see them! We sat two metres apart on the patio, and had a catch up and giggle. My dad soon joined us, until it rained and everyone had to leave. I really wanted to invite everyone indoors but we’re still not allowed to do that here. It was such a nice surprise and a definite highlight of the day.

The weather was so strange on my birthday, it would be glorious sunshine one minute, and throwing it down with rain the next. It’s been like that throughout the most of June so far. After everyone had left and of course, the sunshine came out again, we went for a walk around Beeston. We walked by the church and took some fun selfies.

For dinner in the evening we ordered food from The Circle Eatery in Beeston and it was amazing. I had a mushroom and halloumi burger with a side of sweet potato fries. I would genuinely eat it for every meal if I could! It was as close to going out for a meal as we could get.

Afterwards it was time for cake! I chose a Mary Berry chocolate cake and it was absolutely scrumptious. I video called to my mum, we lit the 23 candles and for some reason, I accidentally laughed and blew them out by accident! There’s actually a photo of this exact moment but you all don’t need to see my shocked face haha.

To end the day we slumped on the sofa and watched The Parent Trap (with Lindsey Lohan). I had never watched it until now and I really enjoyed it, we ended up staying awake until midnight but had to finish the rest of the film in the morning!
