April Birchbox x Rifle Paper Co
Disclamer: This post unfortunately features non-cruelty free products. Sorry about that!
I know it’s a bit late on in April to write this post but I’ve finally got around to it! I was so excited to receive the April Birchbox, especially with a Benefit sample (I’ve never tried a Benefit product before!), and I’m sad to say I was really disappointed with it. My favourite thing about this box is the Rifle Paper Co design, which is absolutely gorgeous! It is definitely going to be sat on my desk for a while to store bits and bobs. Apart from that though, the contents of this box have sadly made me rethink my subscription.
The first item I got in the April Birchbox was a sample of the new Benefit Dew The Hoola. This is a matte liquid bronzer and usually I wouldn’t use a bronzer product on it’s own as I’m always reaching for my trusty contour kits, so I have absolutely no idea how to tackle this. I don’t think i’ll be using this often if at all really, I just tried it and on one cheek it blended perfectly, but it was so patchy on the other side and wouldn’t take to my skin at all. I would have preferred a sample of the They’re Real Mascara or anything else really, it’s a shame Birchbox don’t always let you choose which product you get because a lot of the time it’s something you don’t want!
The next makeup product I got was from a new Birchbox brand, (I’m not enjoying these I won’t lie, the LOC eye shadow pencil from the February Box ended up really hurting my eyes!), Cynthia Rowley Beauty. This is a black eye liner pencil and I haven’t touched one of these for years as I’m much more of a liquid liner fan! So far I’ve swatched this on the back of my hand and it has a creamy consistency, but I don’t think I’ll be reaching for it on a daily basis. Maybe if I do a dark smokey eye though!
I also got the Balance Me Tinted Wonder Eye Cream. I’m rather disappointed because this exact eye cream was a freebie in Glamour Magazine recently, and I wasn’t interested at all, so I picked up the version with the Balance Me Lipgloss instead. However, this eye cream has still made its way into my life! I will still be giving it a try as it aims to ‘brighten and conceal dark circles,’ which I have a lot of recently! Damn university assignments.
For hair in the April Birchbox I received the PARLOUR Detangling Leave-In Conditioner. I will probably use this a couple of times because my hair is absolutely awful to brush after I’ve washed it, but apart from that I think this is another product I wouldn’t look at twice if I saw it in store. This is the same with the Kueshi Foot Care Cream. This is a product I wouldn’t think I needed and I have no idea how Birchbox sent me this based on my profile. No. Idea.
I had such high hopes for Birchbox when I first subscribed, receiving a Spectrum Brush (that I use daily which sadly broken, but Spectrum kindly sent me another!) in my first box. Thinking about it, that is the only thing I regularly use from that box, and I’ve only used the nail polish once. From last month’s box I used the night cream and hair mask, and I now use the lip balm daily. So far I’m only regularly using one product from each box, and the rest are things I don’t really need.
I’m considering cancelling my subscription and finding another, what would you recommend? Were you disappointed with the April Birchbox?
